SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) - A house fire is allowing a popular Sioux City park to expand.

The Sioux City Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1isjSCG ) the Dale Street Park will expand this summer into an area along its north side. The city bought the land after a house fire last August.

The park is especially popular in the summer because of water features that help children cool off on hot days.

The city will use the extra space to install a shelter and seating.

A neighborhood group is celebrating the announcement of the expansion with a block party Wednesday.

The 1 acre park dates to the 1970s, and the water features were added in 2008.
