STERLING, Ill. (AP) - A veteran newspaper executive is becoming the new publisher of Sauk Valley Media.

The (Sterling) Daily Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1pyceeE ) Sam Fisher was appointed to the post Tuesday.

He is the publisher of the Bureau County Republican in Princeton.

Sauk Valley Media is part of Shaw Media, a family-owned company based in Dixon. The company owns about 100 print and digital publications in Illinois and Iowa, including The (Dixon) Telegraph and The Daily Gazette.

Fisher succeeds Trevis Mayfield, who left in May.

Fisher will be based in Sterling. He joined Shaw Media in 1983 and has previously worked for the Northwest Herald in Crystal Lake and the Kane County Chronicle.
