AUBURN, Maine (AP) - A Lewiston man facing a murder charge in connection with the stabbing and strangulation of a 20-year-old Greene man has asked a judge to throw out statements he made to police.
Michael McNaughton appeared in court Tuesday to have some evidence suppressed.
The Sun Journal (https://bit.ly/1k0bFuN) reports that McNaughton’s lawyer, Verne Paradie, argues that police continued to question his client for about two hours even after he asked to leave the police station. He had not been arrested.
The prosecutor countered that police followed proper procedure by reading the 26-year-old McNaughton his rights before questioning him and about in the case.
McNaughton is one of two men charged with the April 2013 slaying of Romeo Parent.
Authorities have said Parent was killed because he had cooperated with police in another case.
