LOS ANGELES (AP) - A Los Angeles City Council committee has voted to move forward with a plan to overhaul the city-owned convention center now that the likelihood of a new downtown football stadium has diminished.
The Daily News reports (https://bit.ly/1kgCWmU) the council’s Economic Development Committee on Tuesday approved a proposal for a $300 million renovation of the convention center. The full council is expected to consider the plan next week.
In 2012 the council approved a $1.5 billion proposal to expand the facility to build a 72,000-seat football stadium near Staples Center.
But with time running out on the stadium deal, and the NFL elusive about plans to bring football back to Los Angeles, officials are seeking other options.
