PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Gov. Paul LePage says he’s considering seeking a refund from a consultant he commissioned to analyze Maine’s welfare system in response to reports that The Alexander Group plagiarized parts of its report.
The Republican governor said last week he will withhold part or all of the more than $400,000 the state still owes the Rhode Island-based Alexander Group. On Tuesday, he told the Portland Press Herald (https://bit.ly/1kn214G ) he may “go back after what we paid,” referring to the $500,000 already paid.
LePage’s administration hired the group for nearly $1 million to help find savings in state welfare and Medicaid programs.
The Alexander Group has blamed the state for not including some footnotes in the report.
LePage has come under fire from Democrats for not putting the contract out to bid.
