HOMEWOOD, Ala. (AP) - A memorial service is planned Monday in Homewood for former Alabama Supreme Court Justice Sam Beatty.
Beatty died May 21 at the age of 91. Beatty grew up in Tuscaloosa, flew a B-25 in World War II, and served as dean of the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, before returning to Alabama to open a law practice. He was elected to the Alabama Supreme Court in 1976 and re-elected in 1982. He retired in 1989.
His family announced that a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Homewood. Visitation will be at the church from 9 until 10:30 a.m.
