DETROIT (AP) - The city of Detroit says about 2,000 ballots sent to retirees and employees in the bankruptcy case are inaccurate and will be mailed again.
The disclosure came Wednesday during a court hearing. Federal bankruptcy Judge Steven Rhodes calls it “very, very unfortunate” and says he wants to know by Friday the name of the person who’s responsible.
The Detroit News (https://bit.ly/1pkMu8r ) says ballots contained wrong information about Detroit’s plan to recover millions paid into annuity accounts since 2003.
About 30,000 retirees and active workers have until July 11 to vote on pension cuts and other changes in retirement benefits. Rhodes will start a trial on Detroit’s bankruptcy plan on July 24.
The judge says information in the bad ballots probably caused some people to vote “no” instead of “yes.”
