ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A black bear that survived being hit by two cars and shot with tranquilizer darts and a shotgun has been killed after it toppled from a tree in an Albany neighborhood.
The Department of Environmental Conservation says Wednesday the bear was killed at a state wildlife center in suburban Albany because it has repeatedly wandered into public areas. Tags on the bear showed it was from Pennsylvania.
The approximately 175-pound bear was first spotted early Tuesday in an Albany suburb and again at nearby Exit 23 on the Thruway. Officials say it had injuries after being hit by two cars on Interstate 787.
Conservation officers shot it with tranquilizer darts and later a shotgun, but the animal climbed a tree and stayed there until it fell to the ground Wednesday.
