TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say an Avondale animal control officer has been arrested in Tempe on suspicion of driving impaired.

Tempe police say 37-year-old Matthew Hoffman showed signs of impairment during a DUI investigation.

Tempe 911 dispatchers began receiving calls at around 12:45 p.m. Wednesday that a vehicle was driving erratically in a parking lot.

Police say the City of Avondale police vehicle hit a curb and fire hydrant.

They say Hoffman was in full uniform and in Tempe on official city business.

Avondale police say Hoffman has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.
