LOS ANGELES (AP) - About 100 firefighters have extinguished a large fire at a Lincoln Heights auto wrecking yard.
The Los Angeles Times reports (https://lat.ms/Sewkzi ) that firefighters were called shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday to 1809 Hancock St., where they encountered intense heat and thick smoke. Officials say drums of water-reactive metals might have fueled the fire.
Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey says one firefighter was briefly hospitalized for smoke inhalation and dehydration after the hourlong firefight.
Humphrey says one home was nearby, but the fire was contained to an industrial area.
The cause of the blaze is being investigated.
