An 18-year-old who was poised to graduate from high school — next to his twin brother — was impaled on a tree and killed after falling off a bluff by a party he was attending in Long Island, New York.

Matthew Grimaldi fell near Hulse Landing Beach in Wading River, Riverhead police said, NBC News reported.

He was attending a party with friends when they all decided to climb onto the nearby bluffs. Mr. Grimaldi lost his footing and fell. He landed right on the branch of a tree that had been felled, and it went into his chest, NBC reported.

He was dead on arrival at the hospital.

Mr. Grimaldi was a senior at Ward Melville High School. He was going to graduate next month, next to his twin brother.
