CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia is honoring the winners of a writing challenge for young readers.

Students competing in the Letters About Literature challenge wrote letters to their favorite authors. The West Virginia Library Commission says 776 students participated in this year’s competition.

Winners were chosen in each of three levels. Level 1 was grades 4, 5 and 6. Level 2 was grades 7 and 8. Level 3 was grades 9 and 10.

Heavenly Adkins of St. Albans is the Level 1 winner. The Level 2 winner is Ace Lipscomb of Princeton. Cedar Sands of New Martinsville is the Level 3 winner.

West Virginia Humanities Council program officer Mark Payne will present the awards Tuesday during a ceremony at the Culture Center in Charleston.
