COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Attorney General Alan Wilson wants the S.C. Supreme Court to keep sealed several matters involving the State Grand Jury now investigating House Speaker Bobby Harrell.
Wilson made that request with the court Friday. No ruling has been made.
Wilson is appealing a circuit judge’s ruling that courts can’t consider a case against a lawmaker until a legislative ethics panel has reviewed it. A hearing before the high court is scheduled for June 24.
Until then, justices say Wilson can keep investigating. State grand jury investigations are secret, and evidence isn’t made public until there is an indictment.
The South Carolina Policy Council has accused the Charleston Republican of using his influence to get a permit for his pharmaceutical business and improperly appointing his brother to a judicial candidate screening committee.
