PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Police in Philadelphia say an armed man was shot by officers during a confrontation on Memorial Day.
Officers were called to a section of west Philadelphia after someone reported seeing a man with a gun at about 5:20 p.m. Monday.
Police allege that the man pointed the weapon at the responding officers, who fired, striking him in the arm and leg.
Chief Inspector Scott Small says the man then dropped the weapon and tried to flee but was taken into custody.
He was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was listed in critical condition.
