OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - Tim Phillips has been named publisher of The Oxford Eagle and its affiliated publications.

Todd Carpenter, president of Oxford Newsmedia LLC, made the announcement Tuesday. Phillips takes over on Thursday.

Phillips is one of the newspaper’s former owners and a co-publisher before its sale earlier this month to the newly formed company, Oxford Newsmedia.

Phillips worked in the newspaper’s darkroom and circulation departments while attending Oxford High School. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Mississippi and began working full time at the newspaper in 1983.

In April, the Phillips and Vasilyev families of Oxford sold the paper to subsidiaries of Boone Newspapers Inc. Terms were not disclosed.

The Oxford Eagle was founded in 1865. It publishes Monday through Friday.
