DERRY, N.H. (AP) - A New Hampshire soldier who was killed in Afghanistan in 2010 has been honored by a bridge in his name in Derry.

Twenty-year-old Lance Cpl. Michael Geary, a 2009 graduate of Pinkerton Academy, died that December.

Geary had been in Afghanistan since August 2010 and was due to come home in January 2011. He had other chances at leave but passed them up to help buddies with families.

He planned to become a police officer or border patrolman when he got out of the service.

Gov. Maggie Hassan ceremonially signed a bill on Memorial Day naming a bridge after Geary on West Broadway Road in Derry.
