BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Law enforcement says they’ve recaptured a felon who escaped from the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison earlier this month.

WBRZ-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1hvBq0r ) deputies apprehended 42-year-old Joseph Pomares at a McDonald’s on Interstate 12 after a short pursuit Monday night.

The man began his sentence April 5 after being convicted of unauthorized use of an access card and illegal possession of stolen things. Pomares was working as a prison trustee on May 19 when he walked away from his post and was unable to be located until he was recaptured on Monday.

Deputies said Pomares was booked into the Livingston Parish Prison as a fugitive from East Baton Rouge. He was transported to the Baton Rouge facility Tuesday and booked for the additional charge of simple escape.
