ATLANTA (AP) - Georgia’s legal community exceeded a goal of collecting the equivalent of a million pounds of food during an annual statewide food drive competition, Attorney General Sam Olens said Tuesday.
The third annual Legal Food Frenzy raised the equivalent of 1,140,627 pounds of food, a 36 percent increase over last year’s results, Olens said. A total of 277 law firms and legal organizations competed in the contest, which ran from April 21 through May 2.
Solo-practitioner Joe S. Habachy, of Atlanta, won the grand prize Attorney General’s Cup with 15,610 pounds, the most per capita statewide.
Georgia State University College of Law took home the Attorney General’s Law School Cup, with 18,475 pounds or nearly 28 pounds per capita, unseating Mercer University law students who won the first two years of the competition.
“Georgia’s legal community has once again answered the call to help Georgians struggling with hunger, not only meeting but exceeding our goal of one million pounds,” Olens said. “I am deeply grateful to the (Young Lawyers Division of the State Bar of Georgia) for their leadership and commitment to the Legal Food Frenzy and to our seven regional food banks who serve less fortunate Georgians every day.”
