DETROIT (AP) - Detroit’s state-appointed emergency manager says he’s interested in owning a piece of Detroit real estate.
Kevyn Orr told reporters Tuesday he’s been perusing homes in some of Detroit’s historic east-side neighborhoods. Vacant homes from those neighborhoods are being auctioned by the Detroit Land Bank Authority.
Orr lives full-time with his family in Washington, D.C., but has temporary accommodations in Detroit. He says he has no plans to move, but it’s a “great opportunity” and he’s interested in investing in one of the city’s beautiful old homes.
He says he might rehabilitate one and sell it “at cost,” or keep it for future visits.
The city can remove Orr after his 18-month term ends in September.
He says he isn’t opposed to staying longer and wants to see the job through.
