WATERBURY, Conn. (AP) - A Waterbury attorney faces a disciplinary hearing after clients say he failed to show up to represent them in court.
The Republican-American newspaper reports (https://bit.ly/1jpumSG ) Raymond Kotulski also has not complied with a court order to turn his files over to another attorney to handle those cases.
The newspaper reports Kotulski was found to be “incapacitated” and had his law license deactivated after failing to show up at a hearing earlier this month and checking into a drug-and-alcohol rehabilitation center.
Kotulski was admitted to the bar in 2006. A date for the disciplinary hearing had not been scheduled by midday Tuesday.
No one answered the phone at Kotulski’s law office, and the newspaper reports a man who answered a cellphone number listed on Kotulski’s business card said Kotulski did not live there.
Jerry Attanasio, a Waterbury-based attorney, was appointed to handle Kotulski’s cases ranging from criminal defense to civil litigation.
Judge Mark Taylor ordered Kotulski to turn over his files to Attanasio earlier this year, but court filings show that didn’t happen.
A filing by Attanasio says some lawsuits filed by Kotulski have been dismissed because of inactivity. It says that without the missing files, Attanasio has not been able do much for clients who have called his office looking for help.
