DENVER (AP) - Vice President Joe Biden arrived under sun drenched skies at Denver International Airport.

Biden, wearing aviator sunglasses and a navy blue suit, exited Air Force 2 holding hands with his wife, Jill Biden at about 3:45 p.m. Tuesday.

The pair waved to a group of local reporters huddled near the wing of the plane and then entered a building near the tarmac to take photos with local dignitaries that included Denver Mayor Michael Hancock and Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey.

Biden will then head to an event in Denver and a fundraiser later in the evening.

Biden arrived by motorcade in the Sunnyside neighborhood of northwest Denver at Common Grounds CoffeeHouse.

After briefly greeting patrons of the coffee shop, Biden sat at a table along with Sen. Mark Udall, D-Colorado, and Hancock to talk about the need for comprehensive immigration reform.

“We have 11 million good people who need a good shot,” Biden said about the need for reforms, noting the need to push Congress to act on legislation before the August recess.

Biden said the “vast majority of the American people” support the need for immigration reform.

Biden called Udall, who is running for re-election in a competitive U.S. Senate contest this November against GOP Congressman Cory Gardner, a champion for immigration reform.

“Now is the time to act. The one request I have is keep up the drumbeat on these guys,” said Biden about House Republicans. “I believe in immigration reform with all I have.”

Seated with Biden, Udall and Hancock at the table inside the coffee shop were Denver City Attorney Scott Martinez, Cindy Del Hierro, co-founder of Confluence Ministries, Robert Sakta of Sakta Farms, Dennis Shorts of Booze Allen Hamilton and a host of other local residents.

They sipped coffee, tea and water as they listened to Biden and the pool press was ushered out of the coffee shop after several minutes.
