MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) - Police say investigators have been able to rule out arson or foul play as the cause of a massive fire at a chemical plant outside Atlanta that spewed black smoke and flames visible for miles.
Marietta Police Officer David Baldwin said in a statement that he received an update on the case from fire investigators, who told him they’ve been able to rule out those possible causes.
The fire started around 8 p.m. Friday in a warehouse owned by AmRep. Officials said the smoke was nontoxic and posed no threat to residential areas. The company website describes the warehouse about 20 miles northwest of Atlanta as a specialty chemical manufacturer and packager.
No injuries were reported.
