CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) - Officials say four people have died in a three-vehicle wreck after a sport utility vehicle hydroplaned near Refugio.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Cpl. Charlie Ramirez says a Chevrolet Suburban traveling south on U.S. Highway 77 hydroplaned early Monday evening on the wet highway, going into the northbound lane, where it struck a Ford Mustang. A Nissan Altima then struck the Mustang.

Ramirez tells the Corpus Christi Caller-Times (https://bit.ly/TPzYkK ) two people in the Suburban and two people in the Mustang died.

He says there were 12 people total in the three vehicles. Other passengers suffered injuries that were not considered life threatening.

Ramirez says the Suburban was traveling to the Rio Grande Valley. The cars were headed to the Houston area.

Refugio is about 40 miles northeast of Corpus Christi.
