NEWTON, N.C. (AP) - Authorities say the pilot of a home-built biplane has died after his plane crashed in Catawba County.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the plane went down near Newton around 8 p.m. Sunday.

The sheriff’s office confirmed the death, but didn’t release any other information about the crash.

Officials say the plane was a Stolp Starduster SA-300.

The FAA is investigating the crash.
