VICKSBURG, Miss. (AP) - Re-enactors at Vicksburg National Military Park portrayed the history of American soldiers in one of many Memorial Day weekend events around Mississippi.

Participants in Saturday’s event gave the audience a glimpse of military history - a timeline of soldiers from the American Revolution to present day National Guards.

Vicksburg’s annual Memorial Day Parade was set for Monday morning to be followed by a ceremony at the city auditorium and a wreath-laying ceremony in Vicksburg National Cemetery.

Other Mississippi Memorial Day weekend events included solemn ceremonies - such as the placing of flags at gravesites at Biloxi National Cemetery - to a boisterous charity fundraiser, the annual Memorial Day Blowout at Gulfport Dragway, which concludes Monday.
