DETROIT (AP) - Authorities say an 8-year-old girl who was struck by a hit-and-run driver in Detroit last week has died.

Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office spokeswoman Mary Mazur says Kamari Smith suffered severe trauma to her head, spine and internal organs when she was struck while standing near an ice cream truck on the city’s west side. The vehicle that struck her fled the scene.

The Detroit Free Press reports (https://on.freep.com/TOrw5c ) that Kamari died Monday morning at Children’s Hospital of Michigan.

Two Detroit residents have been charged in the incident. An autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday.
