TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - A man scheduled to go on trial on charges that he plotted a terrorist attack in Tampa is asking taxpayers to provide traditional Arab clothing for him to wear during the proceedings in federal court.

The Tampa Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1lJ24Ej) that Sami Osmakac’s lawyer told a federal magistrate that his client wants to wear a robe garment called a thobe (THAWB) and a head wrap known as a kaffiyeh (KAF fi YEH).

Osmakac was found competent to stand trial. Jury selection is scheduled to start Tuesday.

Authorities allege Osmakac plotted to blow up a popular Tampa night spot and then take hostages and demand the release of Islamic prisoners. He was arrested as part of an FBI sting.
