Al Qaeda’s main affiliate in Syria, the Nusra Front, posted a message on its Twitter account on Monday laying claim to a couple of car bombings in the central city of Homs that left at least 10 dead.
The bombings took place on Sunday, during a period when rebel fighters and pro-government forces were supposed to be at peace, The Associated Press reported. The two sides forged a truce a few weeks ago in order that opposition forces might evacuate some of their Homs troops.
Now those bombings and the broken truce may have a ripple effect in other areas of fighting.
Homs activist Thaer Khalidiya said he thinks the bombings put in jeopardy the fate of another truce agreement that’s in the midst of being forged in the region of al-Waar that is supposed to span three days, AP said.
