ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - Work is officially underway on a new apartment tower in downtown Rochester.
A ceremony was held Friday to mark the start of the $59 million Tower at Midtown project.
The 357,000-square foot tower will feature three floors of retail and office space and 179 apartments. The project is making use of part of the former Midtown Plaza shopping mall. The work is expected to be completed next year.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo hailed the start of construction. He says the tower will play an “integral” role in the revitalization of Rochester’s downtown. The state invested in the project to help spur redevelopment of the area.
Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren says the project will create hundreds of jobs in construction and retail.
