WESLACO, Texas (AP) - Authorities in South Texas say a teenager was airlifted to a hospital for a gunshot wound after his vehicle crashed into a fence that surrounded a home.

Hidalgo County sheriff’s spokesman JP Rodriguez told The Monitor newspaper (https://bit.ly/1owbcQA ) that a person came out of the home following the wreck and fired on the 18-year-old driver. The shooting occurred in a residential neighborhood in the border town of Weslaco. One witness told KRGV-TV that she heard two gunshots.

The name of the teen was not released and his condition was not available.

No arrests were made immediately following the incident late Friday night but authorities say they’re seeking a person of interest.
