SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - A West Springfield man has been arrested on charges of operating under the influence after police say the car he was driving on Route 291 in in Springfield collided with a tractor-trailer, killing a passenger in his car.

Massachusetts state police say 22-year-old Rudra P. Kafley was treated and released from Baystate Hospital early Sunday morning and charged with operating under the influence of liquor and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

It was not known Sunday morning if he’s represented by a lawyer.

Authorities say the tractor-trailer driver stopped in the breakdown lane to investigate a mechanical problem. He was outside the tractor trailer and was not injured.

Police identified the passenger who died as 25-year-old Moti K. Kuikel of West Springfield.
