CHICAGO (AP) - Thousands of cyclists are taking over Chicago’s most iconic stretch of roadway along the shore of Lake Michigan.

Lake Shore Drive is being closed to cars and given over to cyclists from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday.

The Bike the Drive event amounts to an annual show of force by Chicago’s cycling community. It also raises money for the Active Transportation Alliance to help pay for project to improve biking and pedestrian safety in Chicago.

A post-ride festival features food, live music and booths selling cycling gear.

Nearly 20,000 people took part in last year’s ride along the 30-mile roundtrip route.
