WHEELING, W.Va. (AP) - Two bridges in Wheeling have been renamed in honor of two soldiers who were killed in Iraq.
Media outlets report that the U.S. Army Sgt. Matthew D. Hunter Memorial Bridge and the U.S. Army Capt. David Van Camp Memorial Bridge were both dedicated on Saturday.
The Department of Defense has said Hunter was killed on Jan. 23, 2006 when a roadside bomb exploded near his patrol during combat operations near Mahmudiyah, Iraq. The 31-year-old from Valley Grove joined the Army in 1995.
Van Camp died June 29, 2011, of wounds suffered during an indirect fire attack by insurgents in Badrah, Iraq. The 29-year-old from Wheeling served two tours of duty in Iraq.
