HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) - A World War II Navy veteran has been presented with a new Victory Medal after his original one was lost six decades ago.
The Hot Springs Sentinel-Records reports (https://bit.ly/1mb54Le ) that 89-year-old Thomas “Jason” Hignight lost his medal at a dry cleaners a few years after serving in the Pacific during World War II.
Hignight’s son worked with a liaison for state military and veterans to correct the situation. Last week Hignight was presented with a Victory Medal as well as three other medals he had earned but never received.
Hignight says he’s happy to have his medals to show his children and grandchildren. He plans to put them on display, which is where he says they belong.
