LONDON (AP) - Queens Park Rangers is returning to the Premier League after defeating Derby 1-0 in the League Championship playoff final on a last-minute goal by Bobby Zamora.
Zamora pounced on a poor clearance and left-footed home the goal. It was QPR’s only shot on target in the entire match at Wembley Stadium. This was Zamora’s second winning goal in a playoff final, the earlier one coming for West Ham against Preston in 2005. QPR played the final 31 minutes with 10 men following Gary O’Neil’s red card.
QPR finished fourth in the regular season, a place below Derby. It joins the top tier with Leicester and Burnley.
The promotion means a windfall of at least $135 million because of the Premier League’s lucrative domestic and global broadcasting deals.
