BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - An experimental night activity season starts June 1 at the Salvador/Timken Wildlife Management Area and runs through sunrise on Aug. 15.
The state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says the season provides for the nighttime harvest of frogs and recreational fishing with a rod and reel. There is a possession limit of 50 frogs per vessel and a minimum size of five inches for bull frogs and three inches for pig frogs.
Permits are required and can be obtained at Pier 90 Marina, Bayou Gauche or Bayou Segnette boat launches and Airboat Adventures in Lafitte or via the department’s website, www.wlf.louisiana.gov/permit/self-clearing-permit .
The Salvador/Timken Wildlife Management Area is in St. Charles Parish, along the northwestern shore of Lake Salvador about 12 miles southwest of New Orleans.
