COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A new exhibit chronicling the American Revolution is opening at the South Carolina State Museum.

The exhibit opens at the museum in Columbia on Saturday and runs through Aug. 17.

It explores the role the state played in the war. There were over 200 battles and skirmishes in South Carolina during the Revolution, more than in any other colony.

The exhibit will highlight major battles that took place in South Carolina, including the Battle of Sullivan’s Island, where patriots turned back a British fleet. Another battle highlighted will be the patriot victory at the Battle of Cowpens in the Upstate.
