CHICAGO (AP) - The Chicago Cultural Mile Association will welcome members of the military, public safety and business communities to commemorate Memorial Day.

The wreath-laying at the General John A. Logan Monument in Grant Park will be at 11 a.m. Monday.

Major General John Borling will lead the wreath-laying. The retired U.S. Air Force officer is a former Vietnam Prisoner of War.

Each branch of the armed services, Gold Star families, Daughters of the American Revolution, and first responders will attend the event. Police and fire fighters will memorialize their colleagues who died in the line of duty.

The event will honor the spirit of Civil War General John A. Logan. He’s the founder of Decoration Day, the predecessor of Memorial Day.
