SALEM, N.H. (AP) - A major water main break has caused some traffic headaches in Salem, New Hampshire.

Police said the break was reported at about 7 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Routes 28 and 97 in an area of town called “The Depot.”

The police department has detoured traffic and is warning commuters to avoid the area.

The detours are in place until at least midnight Friday.

Main Street, or Route 97 westbound, is detoured at Granite Avenue. Route 97 eastbound is closed at Pleasant Street. Vehicles may travel down Pleasant, or the road behind the Tuscan Market, which connects to Willow Street.

Both lanes of Route 28 will be diverted to the northbound lanes. Vehicles will not be allowed to make a left turn on to Main Street from either direction.
