BARCELONA, Spain (AP) - New Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen says he couldn’t refuse joining the club since “offers like this don’t come every day.”
Ter Stegen joined Barcelona on a 12 million euros ($16.3 million) transfer from Borussia Monchengladbach, agreeing to a five-year deal that ties him to the club until 2019. His buy-out clause was set at 80 million euros.
The Germany ’keeper replaces Victor Valdes, who helped backstop Barcelona’s most successful period in club history.
Ter Stegen says, “(Valdes) has achieved so many titles and has always been there when he was needed. But I am myself and I will focus on my duties. I have already enough work with that.”
Barcelona is looking to rebound from its worst season since 2008.
