DETROIT (AP) - Detroit Symphony Orchestra music director Leonard Slatkin has signed a three-year extension to lead a French orchestra.
The announcement Friday means Slatkin will serve as music director of the National Orchestra of Lyon through the 2016-17 season.
Slatkin will maintain his current music directorship in Detroit, where he is committed through the 2015-16 season.
In a statement, Slatkin says he and the Lyon orchestra “have built an extraordinary relationship” in the past three years, “one that is satisfying in every way.”
Slatkin came to the Detroit symphony in 2008 after a career as musical director with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra.
He lives in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, with his wife, composer Cindy McTee.
