RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Protesters have scheduled a rally to renew their call on President Barack Obama to close the Guantanamo Bay detention facility.

Human right supporters from NC Stop Torture Now are planning to rally at the Terry Sanford Federal Building near downtown Raleigh on Friday.

Beth Brockman of NC Stop Torture Now says the president has the power to close the prison and needs to use his authority, or the promise he made one year ago to close the facility is meaningless.

The protest is part of a Global Day of Action to Close Guantánamo and End Indefinite Detention, in which 35 human rights organizations have joined to hold rallies in more than 40 cities worldwide.
