JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) - Law enforcement officials are investigating the death of a Jersey City community activist as a homicide.
The Hudson County prosecutor’s office said Friday that Michael Galdieri died from multiple stab wounds.
The body of the 52-year-old was discovered on the second floor of a building on Mallory Avenue that was engulfed in flames when firefighters responded around 9:30 on Thursday night. Prosecutors are investigating the fire as arson.
The prosecutor’s office says no one else was injured by the fire and Galdieri was the only one in the building when the fire department arrived.
Acquaintances told The Jersey Journal that Galdieri was a political activist who once ran for office and worked on several political campaigns.
He is the son of the late former state Sen. James Galdieri.
