FORT WASHINGTON, Md. (AP) - Prince George’s County officials are warning a group of Fort Washington residents that they likely won’t be going home for months after a recent landslide.

The Washington Post (https://wapo.st/1ph0M74 ) reports that an engineering firm says the landslide earlier this month was triggered by intense rainfall that saturated a layer of clay in the Piscataway Hills neighborhood by the Potomac River. Engineers say they can stabilize the hillside by reinforcing the land with steel and concrete, but it’s not clear who would pay for the work or how long it could take.

Department of Public Works and Transportation Director Darrell Mobley says there isn’t a quick fix and a solution will be complicated because the slope is private land.
