MONTICELLO, Ind. (AP) - Workers were evacuated from a northern Indiana factory after an explosion and fire in its ductwork.

The fire broke out about 1 a.m. Friday at the Ball Metal Beverage Container factory in Monticello (mahn-tuh-SEL’-oh).

City Fire Chief Galen Logan tells WLFI-TV (https://bit.ly/1ocsHrl ) it appears exhaust built up in the factory’s ductwork, then exploded and caused fire to spread throughout the ductwork system and to the roof.

Logan says three Monticello firefighters suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene in the city about 25 miles north of Lafayette.

Logan says the fire has been contained with the help of several other area fire departments.
