HATTERAS, N.C. (AP) - The N.C. Department of Transportation’s Ferry Division is adjusting its Hatteras Inlet schedule to accommodate travelers who will be arriving in the late afternoon and evening for the Memorial Day weekend.

On Friday, the Hatteras Inlet route will drop its 8:30 a.m. departure from Hatteras and its 10 a.m. departure from Ocracoke. In exchange, it will be adding a run at 8:30 p.m. from Hatteras and a 10 p.m. run from Ocracoke.

Ferry Division Director Ed Goodwin the department has traditionally seen an influx of travelers at the Hatteras terminal on the Friday evening before Memorial Day. He says the schedule adjustment will help get those passengers to their destinations more quickly, while having a minimal effect on morning and afternoon traffic.
