Jay Leno, speaking to a crowd in Israel, took the opportunity to roast President Obama’s declaration of Jewish American Heritage Month as a chance to strengthen America’s “unbreakable bond with the nation of Israel.”
“He knows it’s unbreakable because he’s been trying to break it of the last five years,” Mr. Leno cracked, according to Israeli newspaper Haaretz.
The former late night host, speaking at an event to honor Michael Bloomberg, also took a swipe at Secretary of State John Kerry’s recent backtrack on comments about Israel becoming an “apartheid state.”
“According to the Central Bureau of Statistics, here in Israel, the most popular boy’s name is Noam,” Mr. Leno said. “Noam is the most popular boy’s name in the country. The least popular boy’s name? John Kerry.”
Mr. Leno frequently poked fun at the Obama administration during his show-hosting days — enough so that Mr. Obama appeared in a send-off video in February to return the favor.
“Jay, you’ve made a whole lot of jokes about me over the years, but don’t worry, I’m not upset,” Mr. Obama said in the video. “On a totally unrelated note, I’ve decided to make you my new ambassador to Antarctica. Hope you got a warm coat, funny man.”
