LYON, France (AP) - Hubert Fournier has been appointed as Lyon coach for the next two seasons.
The seven-time French league champion confirmed the move on Friday, with Fournier replacing the departing Remi Garde.
The 46-year-old Fournier, a former Lyon center-back, was previously in charge of Reims, a club he led from the third division to the topflight in the space of four seasons.
Fournier said his main goal will be to help Lyon qualify for a European competition for a 19th consecutive season and to win a trophy.
Once a powerhouse of French football, Lyon last played in the Champions League in 2012-13. It finished fifth in the French league this season.
