PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say an American Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Miami had to be diverted to Phoenix because of an unruly passenger.

Phoenix police say the 21-year-old man wasn’t booked into jail and they didn’t release his name Friday.

They say a police unit at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport was advised shortly after noon Thursday that a passenger was acting erratically aboard American Airlines flight 1488.

The flight crew diverted the plane to Sky Harbor and officers boarded the aircraft and removed the man.

Police say the man was taken to a Phoenix-area hospital where he received medical attention but it’s unclear if his behavior was drug induced.

The plane resumed its flight to Miami later Thursday without the unidentified man.
