PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Democratic gubernatorial nominee Tom Wolf and the three candidates he defeated attended a “unity” breakfast, but were under orders not to talk publicly about it.
U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz, state Treasurer Rob McCord and former state environmental protection secretary Katie McGinty accepted an invitation from Philadelphia’s Democratic party chairman, U.S. Rep. Bob Brady, to Friday’s breakfast at a south Philadelphia diner.
The Philadelphia Daily News reports on its PhillyClout.com blog (https://bit.ly/St1bbK ) that reporters were invited too, but they weren’t allowed to listen in on the discussion and former Gov. Ed Rendell insisted repeatedly that the participants not answer any questions afterward.
The former two-term governor said campaigns are a “tough, rough business,” and that the meeting was the first step toward bringing the party together.
U.S. Sen. Bob Casey also attended the breakfast.
